Welcome to Madrid!

I am starting this blog to give myself space to write some longer commentary mostly related to design and my experience in Madrid. I don't want to flood facebook with really long posts!

I have already been in Madrid for two months and it is really wonderful. There are all those little differences that are so interesting. I'll try to catalogue some of those as I go. I also recently started teaching at the European University of Madrid that has an exciting international architecture program. That's right folks, there is not a strong tradition of landscape architecture in Spain. The public spaces are mostly designed by architects or urban designers. The architects have mandatory training in urban design in the university but it is always looked at through the lense of architecture, not ecology, sociology, and many other -ologies. So... it is promising that they have asked me to be a part of their studio. It shows that they are open to new approaches regarding landscape.
